Graham Johnson
8. Intracellular Transport
Graham Johnson is an illustrator and animator who has
shown a special flair for biochemical subjects.
This artwork uses a two-dimensional cross-section,
reminiscent of an electron micrograph, to display the
three-dimensional dynamics of transport within cells. Graham
Johnson writes of his work: "I begin by studying the most
current three-dimensional protein data to correlate the
details of atomic structure to overall functional form. As I
sketch, I strive for a balance between artistic license and
realistic detail to help the viewer comprehend time-based
events while simultaneously relating the content to real-world
science." The artwork was painted in Adobe Photoshop
over a scanned original pencil drawing. The artwork
highlights topics that Munksgaard International Publishers
will present in an upcoming issue of the journal TRAFFIC.
