2. Diffraction Space: The Final Frontier
3. Molecular Replacement
Michael Carson is an innovator in the field of molecular
graphics. These images were created during tests of Silicon
Graphics software. "Diffraction Space" is
a fantasy built from data used by scientists
to study the structure of proteins. The "Earth" is data from
an x-ray crystallographic experiment and the "Moon" is the
hormone insulin. This image was created with
the IRIS Explorer, a dataflow environment for
scientific visualization.
"Molecular Replacement" displays some of the geometrical
aspects of molecular replacement, a technique
commonly used by scientists studying molecular structure.
The image was created with Inventor, an object-oriented
three-dimensional graphics toolkit.
