Hi everyone,

I'm fairly new to these tools since I just lately started doing research with my professor. As I hope some of you know, there are ways to run programs off of your USB stick. So I was wondering if there was a way to run all this stuff, AutoDock 4, ADT, & any peripheral software off of a USB? What do you guys think?

Hi,

you didn't mention on which platform you plan to do this, so it is difficult to reply to your question.
In general, both AutoDock and AutoDockTools are rather portable, but it mainly depends on the the system you plan to do it.
For Linux and Mac, you can download the tar.gz packages and make a manual install on the location you prefer.

On Windows (but also on Linux and Mac) you could try to specify the USB path when installing it.

On the other hand, I don't see clear advantages on using the programs from a USB...

Hope this helps,

S.

Thank you for your reply!

So when installing Autodock and AutodDockTools, I could just install it on a USB? Even though it installs Python and everything? The reason I want it to run from a USB is so that I can just plug it into any computer and just use it from my USB. What do you think?

Hi,

as I wrote, it is dependent on the platform you want to test it. I would say that on Linux and Mac it should work easily, while I don't know on Windows.

In any case, the easiest way to find it you would be to try, the installation process takes few minutes.
The best choice would be to use the latest RC3.

Good luck,

Stefano

Thank you! I'm sorry but the link leads me to a 404 page. Can you recheck it? Thank you!
